Day-by-day Itinerary

Day 1        July 2 MON        Ulaanbaatar
Arrival and meeting at Chinggis Khan International Airport, transfer to 3-star hotel in downtown; Welcome lunch with detailed tour briefing and half day city tour - National Museum of Mongolia, Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum, Sukhbaatar Square and Zaisan Memorial. Preparation for field trip. Overnight in 3-star hotel. (L)

Day 2        July 3 TUE        Hogno Khan Natural Reserve
Drive to Hogno Khan Uul Natural Reserve - wildlife watching, Ovgonii temple visit, hiking, horse riding, visiting Mongol Els Sand dunes and beautiful small lake. Bayangobi, where small Gobi, rocky mountains and steppes border and mix. Overnight in ger next to nomad family (B/L/D)

Day 3        July 4 WED        Karakorum
Today we will arrive in Karakorum (Kharkhorin) which was the capital of Great Mongolian Empire of Chinggis Khan in the 13-14th Centuries. You will visit local Naadam Festival site and observe all activities for rest of the day. Overnight in ger camp. (B/L/D)

Day 4        July 5 THU       Tsenkher Hot Spa
This morning we go to visit Karakorum Museum and one of Mongolia’s two largest monasteries, “Erdenezuu”, and surrounding sites of Karakorum: the Great Khan’s monument, the legendary Turtle of Karakorum and the Phallic Rock statue. Erdenezuu Monastery has a complex of 108 stupas and over 10 temples that contain rich displays of Mongolian Buddhism. The Erdenezuu Monastery and ruins of Karakorum were registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1996. After lunch we drive towards Tsenkher village of Arkhangai province. On the way stop at local horse breeding family. On a horseback ride we go to Tsenkher Hot Spa. Overnight in ger camp (B/L/D)

Day 5        July 6 FRI      Tsetserleg
Today we drive to capital of Arkhangai province – Tsetserleg and check-in to Fairfield Café guesthouse. Visit Zaya Gegeenii Khiid museum and market. In the afternoon drive to see Taikhar Chuluu rock formation - a large rock stands out in the middle of a plain in Mongolia. The Taikhar chuluu is covered with inscriptions dating back as far as Turkic rule in Mongolia. Those inscriptions were followed by more in the Mongol language, then Tibetan, and even more modern graffiti. Overnight in Fairfield Café guesthouse (B/L/D)

Day 6        July 7 SAT        Horgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur
Today is Naadam Day and we can see the opening ceremony of Arkhangai Naadam Festival. After lunch we drive to Horgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur NP. Overnight stay in ger camp (B/L/D)

Day 7        July 8 SUN      Horgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur (continue)
Dead volcano with crater-rim of 200m in diameter and 100m deep. Torrents of lava from Horgo volcano blocked the Terkh river forming beautiful Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur lake, home of many rare species of birds. Full day hiking and enjoy the beauty of local nature. We can swim in lake and go to Horgo volcano. Overnight stay in ger camp (B/L/D)

Day 8        July 9 MON      Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve
We continue on road and drive to Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve via famous Dutiin Davaa, driving over thousand streams and looking at the top of trees. Drive further to Huisiin Naiman Nuur or Eight Lakes of the Navel. Fed by Urhit River and surrounded by volcanic craters, lakes are located at 2500m above sea level. Bird wathching, horse riding, hiking, 9 volcano lakes visit. Overnight in ger next to nomad family. (B/L/D)

Day 9        July 10 TUE     Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve (continue)
Full day rest and enjoy the beauty of Naiman Nuur Nature Reserve. Trekking to largest and most beautiful Shireet Lake. Overnight stay in ger next to nomad family. (B/L/D)

Day 10      July 11 WED      Ugii Nuur Lake
Today we continue our trip to lake Ugii Nuur - a wonderful place for birdlife - cranes and ducks, to name just a few species, migrate to the area around late April. Ugii lake is also renowned for its fishing. Ugii is a lake, 1,387m above sea level in Ugii Nuur County in Arkhangai Province. It covers 25sq km, and is rich in Perch and Pike. Swan Goose, White Spoonbill and Dalmatian Pelican have been recorded. Overnight in ger camp. (B/L/D)

Day 11      July 12 THU     Hustai Nuruu National Park
Drive to Hustai Nuruu National Park - The Natural Preserve covers 506km2 and has been protected since 1993 to conserve biodiversity and facilitate the re-introduction to the wild of Takhi, Przewalski’s Wild Horse.  You will visit Information Center, watch documentary film about the National Park. In the evening go to see takhi horses. Overnight at Moilt ger camp (B/L/D)

Day 12      July 13 FRI      Ulaanbaatar
This morning we will return back to Ulaanbaatar. Check-in to 3-star hotel. In the afternoon shopping for cashmere and souvenir. Evening performance of National Song and Dance Ensemble Tumen Ekh. Farewell dinner. Overnight at 3-star hotel. (B/D)

Day 13      July 14 SAT        Departure
Check out from hotel. Transfer to Chinggis Khan International Airport/Departure (B).
